Since this Christmas will be our first married one together, we decided to start a new tradition. Operation Christmas Child is one of the biggest things that my church in Booneville does around the holiday season. We are actually a loading place for all of the churches in the area and the drop-off happens there. With that being said, our church always sets high goals to hopefully fill and exceed.
This year, Phillip and I decided to fill a shoebox and start this tradition together. And we couldn't be more thrilled about the decision that we made. I know it isn't as good as picking an Angel off the angel tree, but to know that one little child will receive the love of Christ this Christmas season means the world to us. We chose a little boy within the age of 5-9 and sent him a picture of our family along with a letter. We know he may not be able to write us back, but we're glad he can put a face with his box!
Shopping for him was probably one of the most fun things we've done together. Phillip wanted every toy that he picked up, but we decided to go along with the theme of "baseball" and he received plenty of things like balls, a hat, a pair of shoes, a watch, and a pair of sunglasses. I encourage you to pray about this next year if you feel like you want to be involved with a Christian charity near the holiday season. It's even more fun if you have young kids because they can help with picking out toys while learning the true meaning of the giving season.
