Former Tiger making noise in rookie ball
Reported by: Jim Holder
BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA/NEMCC Athletics) – Former Northeast Mississippi Community College catcher Phillip Chapman is having an outstanding summer with the Minnesota Twins organization.
Chapman, who played for Northeast in 2008 and 2009, is currently with the Twins' Gulf Coast League rookie team in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Clinton native went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles in an 8-3 win over the Rays on Tuesday that helped move the Twins into a tie for first place in their division.
Chapman entered Wednesday batting .381, second on the team, with an on base percentage of .440.
Chapman, who played the last two seasons at the University of Memphis, was drafted in the 35th round in June.

Each day, I become more and more proud of Phillip and his abilities to play baseball. He's my strong boy, and I'll stand behind him 100% until he decides this isn't what he wants to do anymore. Except.. that might be a while! He's playing GREAT AND living the life that every little boy dreams of!! The only thing missing is me-- and I'll see him in two months! Love you Phillip! You make your wife proud.
