Imagining the Unimaginable

For the first time in my life, I'm enrolled in an astronomy class at the local community college where I attend. I never dreamed that it would have me thinking so theologically. However, it still amazes me that after learning about about our solar system, there are still people out there that don't believe in our heavenly Father.

For some reason, we all have this mindset that we're the only people in the world. We get so comfortable with our surroundings and just don't try to think outside the box. Have you ever just gone outside and looked up at the stars and thought about what is past all of them?! It's totally insane and only a man like God who has always been so precise in his creations could even begin to make something as unique and wonderful as outer space. We're only 1 of 8 planets (now that Pluto isn't a planet) in the beautiful sky. Although they do think there are others, that isn't important. The point being -- us being on Earth is like a bacteria on a flea on a dog's back. Speaking in God's terms, we're totally important, but according to the solar system, if we weren't here it wouldn't change a thing. And that's crazy to think about! Our little brains have sooo much trouble thinking about things that are truly unimaginable.

God knew from the very start what he was doing. There are meteroids, asteroids, comets, the zodiac constellations, planets, stars, moons... and we have seasons because of the Earth's tilt on its axis at different points of the year. And whether they thought all of the continents used to be one large one called Pangea doesn't really matter either. We are all God's children and his creation and he knows each and every one of us by name.

I do want to challenge you this week to think about that. Go outside and look up at the sky and try to imagine the unimaginable. It's truly one of the hardest things I've done in a while. Focus all that you have on Him. That's my prayer for this week.

I'm going to leave you with lyrics from one of my favorite songs.
Indescribable, uncontainable
You placed the stars in the sky and you know them by name
You are amazing God
All powerful, untamable
Awestruck we fall to our knees
As we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God
Amen
